Urban Decay Moondust Swatches

Urban Decay Moondust eyeshadows are a subset of Urban Decay’s eyeshadow singles that have a glitter finish. Like the regular eyeshadow singles, they are pressed in standard 26mm metal pans that are encased in a small plastic clamshell compact. The pans are glued in the compact, but can be removed fairly easily with a little heat and placed in a custom magnetic palette . They retail for 21.00USD and can be purchased on Urban Decay’s website as well as through other beauty retailers.

Because these eyeshadows are very glittery, they do much better with a glitter primer – without it, they tend to have fallout and do not adhere well to the eyelid. Urban Decay does not actually sell a glitter primer (and their eyeshadow primer, while good in its own right, does not work the best for these), but many other brands offer glitter primers at very price points. The indie company Fyrinnae makes an excellent glitter primer called Pixie Epoxy for $7.00USD. For drugstore options, NYX offers their Glitter Primer at $6.50USD. And at mid to high end, Too Faced sells their Glitter Glue at $20.00USD. If glitter primer is not an option, applying these shadows with a wet brush or a brush sprayed with setting spray (like MAC Fix+) will help them to better adhere to the lid. Using your fingers to apply these shadows instead of a brush is also helpful and seems to minimize fallout while applying.

Swatches listed alphabetically by shade name.

Extragalactic

Extragalactic is a blackened plum with red sparkle. Applied on eyelid over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. This color seems to shift between a burgundy and a deep plum. While still obviously a glitter finish, it seemed to be a little less sparkly than some of the other Moondust shadows.

Applied on arm over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. Skin tone is NW20.

Moonspoon

Moonspoon is a medium gray with a silver sparkle. Applied on eyelid over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. The gray base color is actually somewhat warm toned, but the silver sparkle makes the shadow over all cool toned. It has a very glittery effect.

Applied on arm over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. Skin tone is NW20.

Solstice

Solstice is a glittery duochrome green over a pink-red base. Applied on eyelid over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. This color generally has a pink appearance with an obvious teal to green shift. While still a glittery consistency, it has more of a metallic than glittery effect.

Applied on arm over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. Skin tone is NW20.
